Jaylen Brown Fined for Officiating Comments

It seems like things just got a bit tougher for Jaylen Brown. Besides the Boston Celtics’ early playoff exit, the star player has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for remarks he made about officiating during a Twitch livestream following his team’s loss to the 76ers on Saturday.

Brown took issue with what he described as unfair calls regarding pushoffs and offensive fouls. During the seven-game series, he was flagged for offensive fouls a total of ten times. He speculated that these calls were the result of previous comments he made to officials.

In his livestream, he suggested that the referees might have had an “agenda.” He remarked, “If Jalen makes this move, call an offensive foul and follow him every time.” Brown acknowledged that he had been critical of the officials before and wondered if that had influenced their decisions.

He was quite vocal, saying, “This is clearly on the table. If I had to choose, I think some referees need further scrutiny, especially three of them from the last three games.”

Brown didn’t stop there; he also shared his thoughts on Joel Embiid from the 76ers. “Joel Embiid is a great player, one of the best big men in basketball history. But he flops. He knows that,” Brown expressed candidly.

In the final game, where Jayson Tatum was sidelined, Brown managed to score 33 points, grab nine rebounds, and dish out four assists. However, his performance had been notably less impressive in Games 5 and 6, with points tallying only 18 and 22, respectively.

Former Celtics player Kendrick Perkins, now an NBA analyst for ESPN, had some strong words about Brown’s comments. He pointed out that the Celtics lost not solely due to officiating but also because of their poor 3-point shooting, highlighting missed opportunities at home.

During one appearance, Perkins said, “Sometimes you just screw up. There was no agenda. The real issue was that not everyone could shoot.”
