Trump Dances for Students at the White House
On Monday, President Donald Trump made a brief appearance, showcasing his well-known “Trump dance” for students on the South Lawn of the White House, and the moment quickly gained traction online.
A short video clip was posted by the White House on X, with the caption, “Found: President Trump teaches Trump a dance on the South Lawn 🇺🇸.” As Village People’s “YMCA” played, Trump joined in for a few seconds, waving his arms and grinning widely while the students joined him in the fun, before getting back to the event.
This lighthearted moment followed a more serious note where President Trump signed a memorandum aimed at reinstating the Presidential Physical Fitness Test Award and competitive benchmarks that were removed during the Obama administration.
The young attendees were local children and families invited to the White House, though details about their selection weren’t elaborated on.
It’s worth noting that Trump’s dance has become somewhat iconic over time.
At the beginning of the event, he welcomed student-athletes and stressed the significance of physical fitness. “I’m thrilled to have so many young athletes coming to the White House,” he remarked. “Today is a great day to celebrate American sports and physical strength.” He also added a bit of humor regarding his own fitness routine, saying, “I train very well. If I’m lucky, it’s only a minute a day at most.”
Interestingly, Victor Willis, co-founder of Village People, had initially been against Trump using the song but later expressed support, mentioning that it brings “great joy to the American people.”
The memorandum that Trump signed builds upon a previous executive directive that re-established the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, which is part of a broader initiative called Make America Healthy Again.
