Massie’s Campaign Surges with Fundraising Amidst Primary Challenge
Rep. Thomas Massie’s campaign has reportedly surpassed $1 million in fundraising since launching its “Money Bomb” initiative on Monday morning. This information comes from updates visible on the fundraiser’s website.
The Republican, representing Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District, is currently in a primary race against former Navy SEAL Ed Galine, who is notably endorsed by President Donald Trump, a critic of Massie.
“This race has turned into a judgment on whether this country benefits from members like me, who stick to their commitments, or if Congress needs more candidates like Galine, who seem ready to follow the United Party’s lead,” Massie elaborated in a statement shared with Fox News Digital.
Galine, referring to Massie, stated during a Kentucky event in March, “Give me a person who can challenge Massey. I have someone—brilliant and truly a patriot.” His comments hinted at his strong support for Trump.
In a Friday statement, Massie claimed, “We’re leading in both polls and fundraising within Kentucky, and if the $1 million raised proves anything, it’s that we have significant national backing—except, perhaps, for the few liberal billionaires from out of state supporting my opponent.”
Galine’s campaign quickly countered, with senior adviser Tim Murtaugh stating, “This is the last plea from a congressman who promised to serve for three terms but is now running for his eighth. He seems to have abandoned Kentucky, antagonizing Trump in a bid that undermines the America First agenda.” Murtaugh emphasized Galine as a decorated veteran and a solid conservative who stands with Trump.
Massie responded to attacks from Galine, stating, “As is typical, Ed has a spokesperson spreading falsehoods. He’s avoiding direct conversation with me and isn’t even engaging with the press.”
Prior to his time in office since 2012, Massie had signed a pledge supporting a term limits amendment. “I, Thomas Massie, as a member of Congress, co-sponsored and voted in favor of the U.S. Term Limits Amendment for three terms in the House and two in the Senate. I pledge that there will be no future extensions,” the pledge outlines.
During a recent KET program, Massie addressed his tenure, responding to questions about potentially being viewed as a career politician: “I believe I’ve honored the heart and the letter of that pledge. I was involved in supporting the necessary legislative steps for constitutional amendments, and I’ve frequently voted in favor of those.” His role on the Judiciary Committee, where such bills initiate, was also mentioned.
The Kentucky primary election is just around the corner, set for May 19th.
