Obama Discusses UFO Speculation on “The Late Show”

Former President Barack Obama recently addressed the ongoing discussions about UFOs and extraterrestrial life, questioning the credibility of claims that the government is concealing evidence of alien existence. During an interview with Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show,” he dismissed these theories as mere “conspiracy theories.”

Obama shared an insight he gained while in office: “One of the things you learn as president is that the government is bad at keeping secrets.” He suggested that had there been any substantial evidence of extraterrestrial life, it likely would have been leaked long ago, adding with humor, “I promise you, the guy guarding the facility would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend.”

This discussion came on the heels of a statement Obama made on Brian Tyler Cohen’s podcast in February 2026, where he said, “It’s real, but I’ve never seen it,” igniting widespread speculation. He later clarified on Instagram, noting that while the universe’s vastness suggests a possibility of life, the immense distances make it improbable that aliens have visited Earth during his presidency.

Despite his skepticism about a government cover-up, Obama expressed a certain curiosity about extraterrestrial life. He jokingly mentioned his willingness to be an ambassador for humanity in the event of first contact, commenting on his diplomatic experience: “I’m friendly. So I think I could actually do a pretty good job.”

Interestingly, former President Donald Trump also weighed in on the topic. At a recent rally in Phoenix, he mentioned that the Pentagon would soon release information regarding UFO research, stating his initial uncertainty about the subject but recognizing the audience’s interest in it.

Trump revealed discussions he had with Army Secretary Pete Hegseth about uncovering and releasing government documents related to aliens, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), and UFOs, emphasizing the importance of these issues.
