The NFL is set to unveil its 2026 schedule this month, and along with the usual announcement excitement, there’s a newer tradition emerging: Christmas Day games.
It’s interesting how the league continues to push boundaries. Hosting Thanksgiving games? Oh, that’s just not enough anymore. It seems they’re determined to carve out a piece of Christmas too, perhaps even at the expense of the NBA.
I mean, can you blame them? It’s kind of a no-brainer.
This Christmas Friday, three NFL games are on the slate. Here are five matchups to keep an eye on that day.
Wishing you a Merry NFL Christmas:
Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers
What’s a holiday without a bit of drama? The NFL’s oldest rivalry gained some serious momentum last year when Ben Johnson stepped in as head coach for the Bears. His comments about Packers coach Matt LaFleur stirred things up, and the rivalry only deepened as the teams squared off in three nail-biters last season, including the playoffs. This Christmas matchup could have major playoff implications and, honestly, I can’t wait for this one.
Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks
Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Another divisional clash that we didn’t really plan for, but hey, it looks good. It’s all about the standout players: Lamar Jackson against Joe Burrow. And let’s not forget Trey Hendrickson facing off against his old team. If the weather turns, it could shake up playoff outcomes. This game really captures the essence of Christmas Day.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Finally, I’ve got something fresh on my wishlist. This matchup serves as a great nightcap on the West Coast. Fans will see the 49ers in action against Jim Harbaugh’s former squad. Both teams are looking at playoff contention, making this a thrilling game to catch live.
Las Vegas Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs
While this matchup might not directly shape the playoffs, the rivalry has been intense over the last few seasons, especially during the holiday games. Keep an eye on Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who’s eager to make a mark with expectations riding on veteran Kirk Cousins. Plus, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is looking to recover from his ACL injury, which will add some excitement to the game.
