Justice Department Report Highlights Targeting of Religious Americans
A recent report from a Justice Department task force has underscored concerns that religious individuals, particularly Christians, are facing unjust discrimination from government entities. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, who has witnessed this firsthand, shared her observations during a discussion with Blaze Media co-founders.
“We’ve been gathering this information for a while. Personally, I’ve encountered various forms of anti-Christian and, more broadly, anti-religious bias in my work as a lawyer,” Dhillon noted during her conversation.
She cited a troubling example: Various parts of the government have classified requests for religious accommodations—like those seeking exemptions from COVID-19 vaccination mandates for public employees—as illegitimate. “They essentially labeled all these accommodation requests as illegal,” she added.
Regarding the implications of recent rulings, Dhillon remarked that decisions such as the one from the Supreme Court effectively made it unlawful for government employees to express Christian perspectives on issues like same-sex marriage. “There’s a significant absence of respect for Christians,” she lamented.
Moreover, she highlighted derogatory remarks made by prosecutors within the Justice Department. According to the FACE Act Weaponization report, a Catholic magistrate judge was criticized for excluding jury members of his faith and recommended a sentence for a Christian protester that was more than double that of a domestic terrorist involved in an attack on a pro-life center in Florida.
Dhillon expressed gratitude for a presidential administration committed to rectifying these issues and ensuring transparency about what has transpired. “It’s vital that we foster an environment where individuals are not ashamed of their faith in our country, which has its roots in faith,” she remarked, emphasizing the Christian aspect in particular.
