Injury Report: Yankees’ Jason Dominguez
On Wednesday, during the first inning of a game against the Texas Rangers at Yankee Stadium, Yankees outfielder Jason Dominguez encountered a serious accident. It happened when Rangers leadoff hitter Brandon Nimmo hit a ball into the left field seats off Yankees pitcher Paul Blackburn.
Dominguez dashed back to the wall, making an impressive catch, but unfortunately, he collided heavily with the outfield wall. The 23-year-old lost his hat and sunglasses in the process.
Despite the hard hit, Dominguez managed to hold onto the ball, but he ended up lying face down on the warning track. Yankees center fielder Trent Grisham rushed over to check on him until medical personnel arrived.
Dominguez remained on the ground for several moments while doctors attended to him. Once help arrived, he was brought to a cart, and it appeared that he was visibly upset.
As Dominguez left the game, changes were made: Cody Bellinger shifted from right field to left field, Amed Rosario moved from third to right field, and Ryan McMahon took over at third base.
According to the YES Network, he is currently being evaluated for a concussion and undergoing protocols, along with an MRI on his left shoulder. This injury, potentially serious, poses a tough challenge for the Dominican player, especially after his first full season in the major leagues last year, where he had notable stats, hitting .257 with 10 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases.
Dominguez performed better as a left-handed batter, boasting a .274 average, compared to a .204 average when batting right-handed.
Last season, he showed promise as a left fielder, but the Yankees had to send him to Triple-A at the season’s start due to struggles in left field defense and issues against left-handed pitchers. The outfield was crowded with players like Bellinger, Grisham, and Aaron Judge, limiting his opportunities. Dominguez was called back up after Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the injured list.
This incident marked Dominguez’s ninth game of the season. The situation surrounding his injury raises concerns, as the team and fans now await further updates on his condition.
