Blake Snell set to start for the Dodgers on Saturday

There’s still a bit of uncertainty regarding whether the Dodgers will place Tyler Glasnow on the injured list. However, it looks like they may be bringing back another star pitcher sooner than anticipated.

Sources indicate that Blake Snell is set to start against the Braves this Saturday, instead of participating in what was supposed to be his final minor league rehab game in Single-A Ontario.

The decision to activate Snell comes in light of Glasnow’s recent hip injury, which forced him out of Wednesday’s game in Houston after just one inning.

Snell has been out since the season began, dealing with shoulder fatigue that started over the winter.

He has made three rehab appearances lately, including a four-inning outing last Sunday with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

As a two-time Cy Young Award winner, Snell will look to pick up where he left off last year when he recorded a 3.18 ERA over six postseason games, playing a crucial role in the Dodgers’ World Series win. In the regular season, he had a record of 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA, though he missed much of the first half due to an earlier shoulder issue.

If Snell returns, it might not bode well for Glasnow, who had expressed hopes of remaining healthy after feeling “loss of strength” in his back during warm-ups on Wednesday.

The Dodgers could be making this early move to give Glasnow additional time before his next start. On the flip side, if Glasnow does go on the IL, Snell could step right into his place.

In such a case, the current group of six starting pitchers would stay unaffected, which lessens speculation about whether Emmett Sheehan, Loki Sasaki, or Justin Robleski would be pushed out of the rotation to make room for Snell.

Manager Dave Roberts is expected to provide an update on Glasnow, who was set to undergo an MRI exam Thursday, just before the series opener at Dodger Stadium on Friday.

This is still developing, so keep an eye out for updates.
