It’s been a tough start to the year for San Diego Padres player Fernando Tatis Jr. His batting average is sitting at just .248, and surprisingly, he hasn’t hit a home run yet this season.
I honestly thought it would be hard for someone like Tatis to struggle like this; I mean, it just didn’t seem likely. But here we are. His last home run was back in March during the World Baseball Classic. That’s really wild.
But we’re not here to focus on Tatis’ off-field struggles. Sadly, his on-field performance hasn’t been stellar either.
Really, let’s take a closer look.
Fernando Tatis is struggling this season
Wow. It’s been hard to watch Tatis play. It’s like he can’t catch a break. I can’t remember seeing him look this out of sorts for a long time. I’m sure you’ve seen it, too.
This year’s American League seems to be heading toward being one of the worst in Major League Baseball history.
In my two decades of following baseball, I’ve seen a lot. Well, I like to think I have. I mean, there’s always something bizarre happening. Some good stuff, yeah, but mostly bad. Like, I once saw an inside-the-park home run where the ball never left the infield. Yes, it happened. And fights? Definitely. I’ve been at the mercy rule a few times, too, unfortunately.
There was a time we were so bad that our team managed four errors on a single play. Can you imagine how hard that is? We made it look easy.
Back to Tatis. Despite being just 27, this year has really been rough for him. No home runs and an average that’s hovering in the low .200s. I can’t help but think my OPS might actually be better than his right now. Just saying.
And understandably, fans are starting to lose their patience.
