Virginia Democrats Commit Major Mistakes in Hasty Court Motion to Preserve Gerrymandering Plan

Virginia Democratic Party Faces Typos in Supreme Court Motion

The Virginia Democratic Party’s recent motion to the state Supreme Court, which requests a suspension of its mandate regarding the 2026 gerrymandering referendum, appears to include two significant typos.

Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones, along with attorneys for House of Representatives Speaker Don Scott and State Senator Louise Lucas, filed a petition. The Supreme Court had previously issued a stay on an order that would have invalidated a gerrymandered referendum. In the motion, there are errors on the first page, specifically a misspelling of “Virginia” and “senator” in the identification of the plaintiff and the defendant, respectively.

The text of the motion included phrases like “Don Scott, in his official capacity, speaker virginia House of Representatives, etc.” This is where the Attorney General’s office mistakenly tagged “Senator” incorrectly. I mean, it’s crucial to get these titles right.

This motion was submitted on Friday night, right after the court’s 4-3 decision to not allow the referendum to move forward as per constitutional protocols.

There was no immediate response to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation regarding Jones’ office’s stance.

On social media, users quickly pointed out these errors. One person commented, “Start by learning how to spell Virginia,” sharing screenshots of the flawed motion. Another user remarked on waiting for others to notice the spelling mistakes, highlighting the somewhat glaring typos.

In reaction to the Virginia Supreme Court’s ruling, Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued a statement describing the overturning of the entire election as an “unprecedented and undemocratic act.” He expressed that this kind of behavior shouldn’t be tolerated.

Moreover, he criticized what he referred to as “MAGA Republicans” adopting voter suppression tactics, linking this to broader efforts to undermine voting rights, particularly attacking Black representatives in the South. Jeffries mentioned that they are exploring options to overturn this surprising decision.

In contrast, Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters stated on social media that the ruling represents a significant victory for election integrity.
