Trump Reveals Plan for Humanitarian Effort to Release Ships Blocked by Iran Conflict

Trump Initiates “Project Freedom” for Ships in Persian Gulf

On Sunday afternoon, former President Donald Trump announced the launch of “Project Freedom,” a plan aimed at assisting ships that are stranded in the Persian Gulf.

This initiative follows a blockade Trump imposed on Iran back on April 12, after the Iranian government decided to charge tolls for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Just days prior, Iran had stated it would permit 12 ships daily to sail, however, they would need to pay tolls amounting to $1 per barrel, either in Chinese yuan or digital currency. On Truth Social, Trump emphasized that “humanitarian action” for the “victims of circumstance” would commence Monday morning, local time.

Trump stated that nearly all countries not involved in the ongoing, visible conflicts in the Middle East have urged the U.S. to intervene and free their trapped ships. He noted these nations are merely “neutral, innocent bystanders.” Trump reassured that for the sake of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, America would endeavor to safely guide these vessels through restricted waters, enabling them to operate without interruptions. He reiterated that these ships are from regions uninvolved in the current Middle Eastern turmoil.

“I’ve instructed members of the House of Representatives to convey our commitment to aid their ships and crews as they navigate through these waters. In all cases, they’ve expressed they won’t return until it’s safe for navigation and other activities,” Trump said. He stressed that Project Freedom would kick off Monday morning, Middle East time, while expressing optimism about constructive conversations unfolding with Iranian representatives.

Before boarding Marine One on Friday, Trump shared his doubts about the diplomatic negotiations with the press.

He emphasized that the movement of ships aims to aid innocent individuals, businesses, and countries who are merely victims of circumstance. “This is a humanitarian effort on behalf of the U.S., Middle Eastern countries, and mainly Iran,” Trump mentioned. He added that many vessels are running low on essential supplies like food and other necessities for their crews to stay healthy.

Trump affirmed that this initiative could foster goodwill among those who’ve struggled recently. “If this humanitarian effort faces any disruptions, we must address them decisively,” he added, thanking the audience for their attention on the matter.

Officials from the Trump administration have persistently claimed that Iran poses a threat to the U.S., though specifics have not been extensively disclosed. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recognized that the U.S. might have initiated an attack due to fears of Iranian retaliation that could result in American casualties.

In related news, former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned in March, alleging that Operation Epic Fury was launched under pressure from Israel and its influential support in the U.S.

Moreover, reports indicate that Trump was persuaded to target Iran following a visit from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House in February, despite skepticism from Vice President J.D. Vance and other officials.
