Charo reveals her tips for remaining youthful and lively

Charo Talks Aging and Staying Youthful

Charo recently shared her perspective on aging, noting that it feels impossible to fight against the passage of time. She remarked, “If you can’t win, join them,” when discussing how she approaches getting older.

At 75, she believes that maintaining youthfulness is about making healthy choices. She outright dismissed drug use as part of her lifestyle, emphasizing that, “I like action.” Continuously active, she spends her time running, writing music, and practicing her guitar.

In a light-hearted moment, she jokingly expressed how marijuana makes everything seem beautiful, yet stated firmly that she doesn’t partake. “I want to stay alive,” she explained, discussing her preference for water and good wine in moderation, as it’s natural. The importance of a positive mindset also played a significant role in her approach to life.

Charo avoids smoking, crediting this choice for the youthful appearance of her skin. “I’ve got all this on my side,” she said confidently. Along with staying active, she emphasized a diet rich in vegetables and consistent exercise.

“But if I have to go out in the sun, I love Hawaii and sunshine,” she added. Charo believes that embracing nature is essential, advocating for both fun and physical activity, advising against processed foods, gluten, and sugar.

She practices guitar for at least three hours each day and runs an hour to maintain her weight. Humorously, she said she came to America to make money for food, but now she can’t eat much.

“Take care of your body, exercise, exercise. Cut out gluten and fried foods, and no more sugar and apple pie.”

Charo claims flamenco dancing is perfect exercise, particularly for preventing osteoporosis, emphasizing the importance of movement and posture, especially for younger generations who are often glued to screens. She even shared her favorite nutritious recipe for lentil soup, passing down wisdom from her grandmother.

While she enjoys dark chocolate occasionally, she humorously quipped about her propensity to react strongly to coffee. “I’m pretty addicted to chocolate,” she stated, mentioning it brings her joy.

Reflecting on her connection to animals, Charo remarked how much she loves them, even adopting a calf named Manolo after filming an anti-bullfighting PSA. Despite initial neighborhood complaints about keeping Manolo in her Beverly Hills home, she said the police were understanding and generous in giving her time to relocate him. “Everyone ended up loving Manolo,” she noted with a smile.

Now residing in Hawaii, she reminisced about her upbringing on a farm in Spain, how important it is for younger generations to connect with nature, and the amusing attempts of raccoons at her home to befriend her. “I tell people to keep a respectful distance,” she cautioned, but she enjoys their company.

Looking to the future, Charo expressed excitement about her new CD, promising music that resonates and invokes happiness. Scheduled to tour with “The Best of Charo” in June, she reflected fondly on her time on “The Love Boat,” calling it the best decade of her life.

“That show was Aaron Spelling’s greatest production; we really love each other,” she said, sharing how grateful she feels for the opportunities that shaped her career.
