Los Angeles Mayoral Race Heats Up as Spencer Pratt Follows Wildfires
Following damage to his home from the wildfires in Los Angeles, mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt shared a moving video on Mother’s Day that quickly went viral. Samantha Ettas, an activist who also lost her home in the Palisades fire, has voiced her support for Pratt in opposition to the current Mayor, Karen Bass. Ettas criticizes Bass for her handling of the city’s homelessness issue and highlights that reconstruction efforts have only seen 30 out of 16,000 structures rebuilt so far.
In a notable twist, Magic Johnson, the famed former Los Angeles Lakers player, broke with his former manager to endorse Karen Bass in the mayoral race. Bass posted a video supporting this endorsement on her social media. This comes after Jeanie Buss, who is associated with the Lakers, seemed to back Spencer Pratt.
Johnson pointed to his long friendship with Bass, spanning 30 years, and praised her initiatives on homelessness and crime reduction as key reasons for his endorsement. He mentioned, “She’s doing a great job. Mayor Bass deserves a second term, and I’m thrilled to support her.” His words reflect appreciation for her efforts in a challenging role, and he looks forward to assisting her vision for the city.
Interestingly, Johnson didn’t address the controversies surrounding Pratt’s rise in the race, mainly focused on Bass’s response to the devastating bushfires from 2025, which resulted in significant loss of life and property. Pratt continues to challenge Bass on this front.
In a surprising gesture, Bass also made headlines by donating $1,800 to Pratt’s campaign last month, which marked the maximum legal limit for such donations.
Moreover, it has been noted that Pratt was seen alongside Bass at a recent Lakers playoff game, adding another layer to the ongoing political dynamics in the race.
