A specialty chocolate company, Spring & Mulberry, has broadened its recall of high-end candy bars due to potential salmonella contamination. Originally focused on specific products, the recall now includes the entire range of their offerings.
Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Spring & Mulberry is known for its date-infused chocolate bars priced at $10 each or $95 for a variety pack. An investigation by both the manufacturer and the FDA pointed to a “single-lot date ingredient” as the possible contamination source.
Salmonella poses serious risks, especially to vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. In rare cases, it can lead to severe infections, including endocarditis and arthritis, according to food safety officials.
The FDA specified that the recall covers all flavors offered by the brand, including Blood Orange, Coffee, Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, Mint Leaf, Mixed Berry, Mulberry Fennel, Pecan Date, Pure Dark, Pure Dark Mini, and Sea Salt.
Consumers could have purchased these recalled items online or through select retailers since August 2025. To identify if a chocolate bar is affected, customers should look at the lot and batch codes printed on the packaging.
For those holding potentially contaminated products, it’s advised not to consume them. Instead, customers can request a refund by emailing a picture of the packaging with the batch code to recalls@springandmulberry.com and should dispose of the chocolate immediately.
Fortunately, as of Friday, the FDA reported no illnesses linked to the recalled products. All items involved in the expanded recall tested negative for salmonella, encompassing those made with significant amounts of the identified date ingredient.

This recall follows an earlier one initiated on January 12, where the mint leaf bars were pulled from shelves due to bacterial contamination concerns after tests indicated possible salmonella presence. The expanded recall later included additional flavors since the bacteria can be hard to detect and may appear sporadically.
