Trump’s Energy Strategy as a Diplomatic Tool
Senator Dave McCormick (R-Pennsylvania) discussed President Donald Trump’s energy strategy as a vital diplomatic instrument during an event with Breitbart News on Monday. He emphasized that this strategy serves both as a weapon and a means of diplomacy to promote American interests internationally.
During the conversation, host Matthew Boyle prompted McCormick to elaborate on how Trump uses energy in this dual role. McCormick mentioned that Trump is integrating economic policy across various sectors, including foreign direct investment and energy matters.
He noted that discussions regarding trade relations and foreign investment are on the agenda for NATO and the economic team. According to McCormick, achieving fair relationships is crucial, and these topics should be part of a wider national strategy that benefits both sides.
“It’s an advantage for America,” McCormick stated, highlighting energy as a significant asset in the U.S. arsenal. This approach is seen as one of the best ways for the U.S. to attain global equity, he explained.
“The landscape of the world is changing rapidly,” McCormick remarked, adding that there hasn’t been such a significant shift in geopolitics since World War II. He pointed to the events in Venezuela and Cuba, along with ongoing situations in the Middle East. At the core of these developments, he believes, is energy.
McCormick specifically pointed to Venezuela and Iran, noting their substantial oil reserves—18% and 12% of the world’s total, respectively. He predicted that as these resources come under control of governments more aligned with Western interests, the United States will strengthen its global influence.
“With the recent and dramatic transformations in geopolitics and energy dynamics, including the UAE’s exit from OPEC, I think this could favor the U.S., making it a more energy-dominant nation,” McCormick said.
He stressed the importance of ensuring the continuity of this strategy even after President Trump’s term ends. McCormick remarked, “I’m not just considering my own initiatives; we’re actually trying to rebuild the entire nation.” He credited his own electoral success in Pennsylvania to his focus on energy issues and noted the left’s hesitance to even mention “fracking.”
“This shift is significant,” he concluded, “and we need to solidify energy dominance as part of our national policy—through legislation and various actions—to secure America’s standing in the global arena.”
