Trump labels Iran's nuclear suggestion 'worthless' and cautions that ceasefire is barely holding on.

During a press event on Monday, President Donald Trump harshly criticized a recent peace proposal from Iran, labeling it as “garbage.” He remarked that only “stupid people” would doubt his commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Trump stated that Iran’s offer goes against earlier agreements to abandon enriched uranium. He expressed frustration, saying, “They want to negotiate, but offer something so nonsensical that no one would agree to it. It’s foolish. Obama would have taken it, and so would Biden.”

He pointed out that Iranian officials once consented to the removal of enriched nuclear material from a site he described as “obliterated” due to a U.S. strike, but later reneged on that promise in their proposal to Washington.

Trump asserted that the U.S. wouldn’t entertain any deal that failed to put Iran on a clear path away from developing nuclear weapons. He explained how the negotiations appeared to be straightforward, indicating that Iran had initially shown willingness to agree to a long-term ban on nuclear arms but subsequently faltered.

In an apparent dig at Iran, he questioned their intelligence, saying, “It’s hard to believe how foolish they are. They seem to think I would just tire of this situation or feel some external pressure. But there’s no pressure here.”

He conveyed concern that the new proposal could jeopardize an existing ceasefire with Iran. Trump described the Iranian offer as “incredibly weak” and mentioned he hadn’t even finished reviewing it before deciding it wasn’t worth his time. He even compared the proposal to a dire medical situation, implying that it held little chance of success.

When asked about the proposal, he declared it “completely unacceptable,” asserting that his own plan is superior and stating that the U.S. has effectively defeated Iran militarily.

He emphasized a firm stance, reiterating, “Iran cannot and will not have nuclear weapons. They are highly dangerous and unstable.” While acknowledging that there might be moderates in Iran wanting to reach an agreement, he suggested that hardliners are hindering progress.

Trump concluded by expressing that some Iranian elements are likely intimidated by those within their ranks who oppose any concessions.
