Days after sealing a plea deal concerning unpaid taxes and a firearms felony, Hunter Biden seemed particularly anxious and irritable, as captured in recently leaked footage from a documentary that features him.
“What do you mean, ‘I’m protected’?” a visibly taken aback Biden is heard saying into his phone. The documentary, put together by Kevin Morris—a Hollywood writer and lawyer—reveals that he lent Biden over $6.5 million for personal needs and outstanding taxes.
Morris, known for his work on projects like “South Park” and “The Book of Mormon,” has been following Biden since 2021 during his father’s presidency. He also documented Biden’s transition into the art scene, which has been shrouded in controversy.
The footage, timestamped June 29, 2023, comes just nine days after Biden’s attorneys negotiated the plea deal. In a moment of heightened emotion, he asked, “Georges, who am I protecting? Who am I protecting?” seemingly while in an art studio somewhere in Malibu, apparently speaking with a former art dealer from New York City.
The clip goes on to show Morris filming outside the courthouse during Biden’s legal proceedings related to tax evasion and firearm charges. Notably, the video also captures a moment between Biden and art dealer Georges Bergès, who critiques the artwork while Biden holds his young son, Beau, in his arms.
Bergès, a gallerist who worked with Biden until September 2023, expressed during the footage that he felt something was amiss in Biden’s artwork, asking, “Are you still working on it?” This alludes to the complexity surrounding Biden’s art sales, which have faced scrutiny since his father was president.
“There’s something special about his art,” Bergès reflects in the documentary. “I think it’s my job to tell that story.” However, the scrutiny led to significant backlash, with Republican lawmakers pushing for a special prosecutor to investigate the sales.
Biden eventually received a deal that would allow him probation instead of jail time for the gun charge, and he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors related to over $1.2 million in unpaid taxes from 2017 and 2018. However, the deal unravelled the following month when a judge raised concerns about its structure.
Later on, Biden was pardoned by his father in December 2024, right before Joe Biden left office. Reports suggest that Hunter owes approximately $20 million, predominantly to his former legal advisors, and has not settled his debts to Morris.
Recently, it’s been reported that Biden is residing in a luxury ranch in California owned by Joe Kiani, a billionaire backer of his father, who claims to split his time between the U.S. and South Africa.
As for the documentary, it’s uncertain when it will be made public. Morris did not provide any comments regarding the film, nor did Hunter Biden’s attorney.
