DNA sample under FBI investigation could determine outcome of Nancy Guthrie case as search hits 100 days

Nancy Guthrie's ransom notes reveal disturbing scheme against her family, says former FBI agent.

DNA Testing in Ongoing Investigation of Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance

As the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s abduction marks its 100th day, DNA samples collected from her Arizona home are currently undergoing detailed analysis at the FBI crime lab. Authorities are still hopeful that they might soon find resolution in this case.

The DNA strands, taken from the home of the 84-year-old, were first sent to a private lab in Florida. This happened despite federal agencies earlier offering their assistance to analyze the samples at a more advanced facility. It wasn’t until weeks later that the evidence was handed over to federal authorities.

Although the specifics of the DNA analysis remain unclear—like what precisely is being examined or where it was located—law enforcement has indicated that testing is ongoing.

Jason Pack, a former FBI Special Agent, noted that the process is often more time-consuming than what is depicted in crime TV shows. He emphasized that constructing a comprehensive family tree to identify potential suspects demands thoroughness and time.

Another former FBI agent, Lance Rising, mentioned that the nature of the DNA evidence plays a significant role in priority. For instance, if DNA—like hair—were found at the scene, especially in the victim’s bed, it would take precedence over other samples found elsewhere in the home.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who has faced criticism for prior missteps in DNA evidence handling and for initially excluding federal entities from the investigation, refrained from commenting on the ongoing analysis. He stated, “Discussing evidence now wouldn’t be appropriate. We must maintain the integrity of this case.”

This milestone in the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, which reached 100 days on Monday, has garnered public attention. Nancy is believed to have been kidnapped from her Tucson home during the early hours of February 1st. Security footage from her doorbell camera captured a masked individual near her front door on the suspected night of her abduction, while blood spatter was later found outside.

Despite the extensive efforts over these past few months, investigators have not yet pinpointed any substantial leads or identified suspects connected to her disappearance.
