Katy Perry is still feeling a sense of longing for Josh Groban.
On Monday, she shared a TikTok reacting to Groban’s engagement to British actress Natalie McQueen, reminiscing about their brief romance back in 2009.
In the clip, Perry, dressed in a white bathrobe, humorously pretends to cry as she hears the news, pouring herself a drink that looks like champagne and taking a sip.
Perry’s 2011 hit “The One That Got Away,” inspired by Groban, played in the background during the video.
In her post, she congratulated the couple, adding a champagne emoji and captioning it simply “Congratulations.”
The TikTok generated quite a buzz, with fans chiming in with their reactions. One commented, referencing Perry’s current relationship with Justin Trudeau, saying, “This is bold and I love it. Maybe they’ll break off the engagement for you.”
Another user noted they didn’t even realize it was Perry’s account, while a third remarked on her apparent fascination with TikTok and her amusing take on Groban’s news.
Perry had previously acknowledged Groban as the muse for “The One That Got Away” during a livestream in 2017 meant to promote her album.
Groban, 45, expressed surprise when he learned the song was about him, recounting his reaction on “Watch What Happens Live” in 2018. He recalled, “I wasn’t expecting that. When I saw it, I did a double take and spit out a sip of my coffee.” He found it sweet but added, “I’ve never owned a Mustang. I don’t have any tattoos. Is that really about me?”
Groban has articulated that they ended their romantic relationship because they were “better off as friends,” emphasizing that they still maintain a good friendship and consider each other close.
“I’m very honored,” he said about Perry’s song. “But I was very surprised by that too.”
