A troubling video has surfaced showing a group of high school students on electric bikes attacking a man on the boardwalk in Huntington Beach.
Sam El-Sayed, who relocated to Huntington Beach three years ago, was riding home with his wife on Saturday night when they noticed a large crowd of teenagers gathered on the beach, boardwalk, and a nearby grassy area.
As El-Sayed maneuvered his scooter through the crowd, a glass bottle was thrown, striking him in the face.
The bottle either shattered upon impact or had already been broken, resulting in minor injuries.
After stopping to assess the situation, he was unexpectedly punched from behind, causing him to fall to the ground. While he was down, four to six students reportedly kicked and stomped on him.
Mobile phone footage documented the chaotic final moments of the altercation, capturing one boy pulling away from another as El-Sayed remained on his hands and knees, with some teenagers nearby laughing.
When he finally stood up, blood was visible running down his face.
Police managed to apprehend one of the involved teenagers, who was arrested and faced misdemeanor charges. Authorities noted that El-Sayed declined medical assistance at the scene.
El-Sayed expressed to KTLA that the emotional impact of the assault overshadowed the physical injuries.
“What we need is for them to really focus,” he stated regarding law enforcement. “They should be coming in and breaking this up.”
This incident occurred just a day after Huntington Beach police had initiated a crackdown on electric bicycles and e-bikes, issuing numerous citations.
