Tiger Faces Court Setback as Judge Allows Prosecutors to Access Golf Legend's Prescription Drug Records

Legal Setback for Tiger Woods in DUI Case

Golf legend Tiger Woods has faced a setback in his DUI case, as a Florida judge has ruled that his prescription drug records will remain accessible to prosecutors.

Judge Darren Steele has granted permission for prosecutors to obtain Woods’ medical records from Lewis Pharmacy in Palm Beach via a subpoena. This move comes after the prosecution expressed a need to understand if any medications prescribed to Woods included warnings against driving.

They are also looking into details such as the quantity of pills per prescription and any restrictions associated with their use. Woods’ attorney, Douglas Duncan, initially resisted the subpoena, arguing that Woods has a right to keep his medical history private.

However, Duncan ultimately conceded to the subpoena, ensuring that the records would be limited to prosecutors, law enforcement, experts, and the defense team, excluding any media or public access.

The charges against Woods stem from an incident in late March, where he was arrested for drunk driving, criminal damage to property, and refusing to take a urine test after his vehicle rolled over in Florida.

According to police reports, Woods swerved to avoid a collision, but ended up hitting the back of a pickup truck, which resulted in his vehicle rolling over. Sheriff John Budensiek remarked that Woods exited through the passenger side door.

While officers believed Woods was impaired, he passed a breathalyzer test but declined to provide a urine sample.

This isn’t Woods’ first encounter with the law regarding driving incidents. He previously faced difficulty in 2021 when an accident in California nearly ended his career due to severe leg injuries.

Moreover, in 2017, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Palm Beach County, where he ultimately pleaded guilty to reckless driving and completed a DUI program, along with paying a fine.
