Florida Teacher Arrested for Alleged Misconduct with Student

A Miami teacher is under fire for allegedly kissing a male student for about six minutes, groping him, and, on another occasion, engaging in a sexual act after unzipping the victim’s pants.

Leroy Wright Jr., 46, was detained last week on multiple charges including crimes against students by authority figures and unlawful sexual conduct with minors, as stated in the arrest report.

On April 28, an email was sent to the principal of Miami Jackson High School, claiming Wright, who teaches reading, was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student. The principal promptly initiated a Model Personnel Investigation Report to address the incident.

Police engaged with the individual who sent the email and later identified the victim. They interviewed the student at home, accompanied by his mother. The teen mentioned he met Wright at the start of the school year, when he was invited to join the Freshman Club, of which Wright was an adult sponsor.

The first reported sexual incident supposedly took place on April 29 when the victim hugged Wright while leaving his classroom. Allegedly, Wright then groped him and kissed him for about six minutes. On May 1, the teacher reportedly kissed and groped the student again. A few days later, in Wright’s car and while stuck in traffic, the victim claimed Wright unzipped his pants and performed a sexual act on him.

Prior to his arrest, authorities informed Wright that the victim’s cellphone had undergone forensic examination.

Wright was booked into jail last Friday, where he remained as of Wednesday morning. He is scheduled to appear in court soon.

One neighbor expressed disbelief over the allegations, noting Wright holds a Ph.D. and stated, “He’s too educated for that. No, we’re not friends.” Meanwhile, the school district confirmed Wright’s termination in a recent statement. They emphasized that such conduct is unacceptable and contrary to the standards expected of employees, reiterating their commitment to student safety.
