Survey Reveals AOC at the Forefront of Possible 2028 Democratic Contenders

2028 Presidential Race Poll Highlights AOC’s Lead

A recent Atlas Intel poll reveals that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is currently leading the pack among those considered for the 2028 presidential race.

In contrast to other recent surveys showcasing Kamala Harris as a preferred candidate, this poll indicates that members of the “Squad” are ahead with 26% support. Former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg follows with 22.4%, while California Governor Gavin Newsom has 21.2%.

Harris ranks significantly lower in fourth place with an approval rating of 12.9%, as other candidates trailed into single-digit percentages.

This survey was conducted from May 4-7 and included responses from 2,069 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Interestingly, Ocasio-Cortez has not made any announcements about a presidential run, though some are suggesting she should vie for Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) position. Recently, she shared with David Axelrod that her main goal is to bring about transformative change in the country, stressing that her current endeavors are not driven by ambitions for future political roles, which she views as temporary.

“They assume my ambition is about titles or positions. But my ambition is much deeper than that. It’s about changing this country. Presidents and other elected officials come and go, but lasting changes like single-payer health care, living wages, and workers’ rights are what truly matter,” she expressed.

Yet, other polls still position Harris as the front-runner for the Democratic Party, despite her previous loss to President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. One poll shows her with a notable lead of 38% in the Democratic primary, while Newsom and Ocasio-Cortez trail with 16% and 9%, respectively.

A Harvard-Harris poll echoed similar sentiments, reporting that half of Democrats would select Harris as their top choice. Newsom again held 22%, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro at 9% and Ocasio-Cortez at 8%.

As for Harris, she has not confirmed her intentions regarding another run but hinted at it during the National Action Network convention led by Rev. Al Sharpton, stating, “I might, I might. I’m thinking about it. I’ll keep you posted.”
