Mets seem to escape major concerns with Juan Soto's foot injury worry

Juan Soto Avoids Serious Injury

Juan Soto had a scare during Wednesday’s game when he had to leave early after fouling a ball off his right foot. The Mets emerged victorious with a 3-2 win, but there were moments of anxiety for fans and teammates alike. Manager Carlos Mendoza reassured everyone, stating, “He’s doing well every day,” adding that the X-ray results were negative.

Soto had previously missed about three weeks in April due to a right calf strain. In the third inning against the Tigers, he stumbled out of the batter’s box and fell to his knees in obvious pain. Despite that, he managed to complete his at-bat and returned once more in the sixth inning before exiting the game one inning later, leaving fans collectively holding their breath.

“I was concerned right after he got hit,” Mendoza remarked. “You could see he was struggling. That second at-bat was the only time he wasn’t himself.” Soto left the game with two outs and runners on the corners, with MJ Melendez stepping in to replace him. Shortly thereafter, the inning ended when Carson Benge was caught stealing.

Overall, Soto finished the game 0-for-3 with a strikeout, but the team felt relieved at the positive prognosis as they celebrated their win. Notably, this incident followed Mendoza’s announcement that Francisco Alvarez would undergo surgery for a torn right meniscus, and injuries to other key players like Francisco Lindor and Jorge Polanco were also troubling the roster.

In another unfortunate twist, Ronnie Mauricio suffered a broken left thumb just after being called up from Triple-A Syracuse. The Mets have certainly been battling injuries as they try to find their footing this season.

For now, the atmosphere around Soto seems hopeful, with Mendoza not ruling him out for the series finale against Detroit. A win in that game would mark the Mets’ first series victory of the season and could provide a much-needed boost ahead of the Subway Series.
