Spencer Pratt Challenges TMZ Over Mayoral Campaign Claims
Spencer Pratt, the former reality TV star, is pushing back against TMZ after the entertainment site tried to challenge his bid for the mayoralty in Los Angeles. The gossip outlet suggested that Pratt’s residency was questionable due to his home being destroyed in a fire in January 2025.
In response to doubts regarding his residency status, Pratt emphasized that California law permits those who have suffered losses in wildfires to remain on their property while repairs are underway. He has set up an Airstream trailer on the site but also acknowledged that his family stays in Santa Barbara periodically.
On Wednesday, TMZ took things further by claiming that Pratt has been living in a luxury hotel instead of his mobile home, which adds another layer of complexity to his residency arguments. He reached out directly to TMZ, expressing his frustration.
“That’s where I live. I don’t have to sleep there every night. I don’t have to go to bathroom number two. That’s where I live,” he asserted.
Political adversaries have since used TMZ’s report to undermine his campaign. Following that article, TMZ conducted a poll on the X platform to gauge public sentiment. The results weren’t particularly favorable for the outlet. The question posed was whether Pratt’s campaign was misleading now that he’s alleged to stay in a luxury hotel rather than on his property.
The poll results showed only 6% agreed that this revelation was misleading, while a large 94% sided with Pratt, acknowledging, “No, his house is gone!” Over 10,000 people participated in the survey.
Additionally, Pratt mentioned needing to stay at a hotel because he had been threatened by an online “psychopath.” His supporters argue that critics are unfairly leveraging his property loss against him, especially as current Mayor Karen Bass(D) has faced much scrutiny for her handling of the crisis that led to the destruction.
Last week, during the first mayoral debate, Pratt was noted for his strong performance, particularly in his exchanges with City Councilor Nithya Raman, who advocates for progressive policy.
