Congressional candidate's surprising history with 'sex therapy' uncovered

A candidate for the newly established Texas House of Representatives identifies as a family therapist, but her background includes some rather unique ventures in astrology-based “sex therapy.”

A recent report has shed light on the unusual business activities of Maureen Galindo, a 38-year-old single mother running for a congressional seat. She has reportedly attempted to scrub her past from online sources.

Galindo is vying for the Texas’ 35th Congressional District and describes herself as a certified marriage and family therapist with Exulted Sex Therapy, where she addresses issues like “pleasure and orgasm disorders” as well as single life, according to their website.

In 2022, she managed Cosmic Kinks Tarot in Bexar County, Texas, which provided services such as “kinky birth chart readings” and “live tarot therapy” aimed at empowering individuals through sexuality, spirituality, and astrology.

In a statement, Galindo mentioned how she merged popular astrology practices with sex education to assist people in developing healthy sexual attitudes. However, she admitted she wasn’t licensed at the time, so this work wasn’t considered formal therapy.

This sex expert has often switched between titles like “community psychologist” and a campaigning therapist. In Texas, there are three licenses for practicing psychology, all requiring a relevant PhD that Galindo does not possess.

While the state does issue another type of license for psychologists, she hasn’t obtained one, based on reviewed records.

She claims to hold a “master’s degree in community psychology” from Concordia University, which offered the program before its closure in 2020.

Galindo is up against tough competition from Johnny Garcia, the leading Democratic candidate for the new District 35 seat. Garcia, self-described as an “old school Democrat,” is also under pressure.

Currently, Galindo is receiving backlash for her history of anti-Semitic remarks and for endorsing long-standing conspiracy theories. Recently, she accused Garcia of trying to align with human trafficking networks in Bexar County and claimed he was supported by “billionaire Zionists” who wield control over local governance.

Galindo stated, “[Zionists] have infiltrated our local governments, including those in Israel. I think it’s crucial to expose that,” she noted.

Additionally, she alleged that “billionaire Zionists and their puppets” were applying pressure on her.

On Thursday, the Israeli Consulate General in the Southwest publicly condemned the “hateful rhetoric” from individuals in public office, though they didn’t specifically name Galindo.

In another upcoming primary election, two Republicans are contending for a seat in the same district. This high-stakes race emerged from a new congressional district map enacted by the Texas Republican Party in August 2025.

It’s predicted that up to five Democratic seats might change hands come the midterm elections.
