Possible Charges for Raul Castro

The U.S. is considering prosecuting former Cuban President Raul Castro, according to a source familiar with the situation. This development has surfaced following a meeting between CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Cuban Interior Ministry officials, which took place during his visit to Cuba.

CBS News reported on the potential charges against Castro, who is now 94 years old. The possible indictment relates to an incident from 1996 when a plane operated by the humanitarian group Brothers to the Rescue was shot down.

During the meeting, Ratcliffe spoke with various high-ranking Cuban officials, including Interior Minister Lázaro Álvarez Casas and the head of Cuba’s intelligence services. He communicated President Trump’s stance, emphasizing the U.S. is willing to engage on economic and security matters, but only if Cuba experiences significant changes.

Interestingly, the discussion reportedly touched on broader topics like intelligence collaboration and economic stability. A CIA official highlighted that Cuba is not a safe haven for adversaries in the region anymore.

Earlier this month, President Trump made a tongue-in-cheek remark during an event in Florida, suggesting that the U.S. could “occupy” Cuba “almost immediately,” a comment that garnered attention.

The Trump administration has intensified sanctions against Cuba, particularly affecting oil suppliers, as part of an effort to apply pressure amid fuel shortages and power outages in the country.

As for the charges against Raul Castro, they still require the approval of a grand jury before moving forward. Fox News Digital has attempted to reach the Department of Justice for further details on the matter.

This situation is still evolving, so stay tuned for the latest updates.
