Lauren Boebert Parts Ways With Trump by Backing Thomas Massie

Lauren Boebert Backs Thomas Massie Amid Trump’s Primary Challenge

Republican Representative Lauren Boebert from Colorado recently threw her support behind fellow Republican Thomas Massie from Kentucky. This endorsement comes as former President Donald Trump seeks to challenge Massie in the upcoming primary.

Trump initiated a vigorous campaign against Massie, endorsing his opponent, Navy SEAL Ed Garrein, and openly criticizing Massie’s stance on various issues like the Iran war and his opposition to significant legislation. Just days before the primary, Boebert spoke highly of Massie, claiming he “loves America and is fighting to save America,” while also expressing admiration for Trump.

In her remarks, Boebert said, “Here’s my friend Thomas Massie. He loves America and he’s fighting to save it. And below him is my friend and the president, Donald Trump. He’s putting his life on the line to save this great country. I support both of them. I’ve worked alongside them to protect our liberties. If that bothers you, well, bless your heart.”

Massie’s decision to vote against a major bill last June was based on concerns about the national debt it might generate. He also labeled Trump’s military actions regarding Iran as unconstitutional. Furthermore, he has expressed opposition to the ongoing conflict in Iran, noting that Israel has pulled the U.S. into this war.

During a rally, Trump referred to Massie as a “complete and total disaster,” while also disparaging him at a National Prayer Breakfast. Yet, Boebert left her name on a discharge petition led by Massie, despite Trump’s pressure to retract her support.

Earlier this year, Massie was one of three Republican representatives who opposed lifting the blockade associated with Trump’s tariffs. He also stood alone in voting against provisions in a proposed law he believed would bypass standard legislative rules.

The primary has seen over $25 million spent on advertising, marking it as the most expensive in U.S. House history. Notably, significant funding came from pro-Israel organizations supporting Garrein.
