Charity lunch auction with Warren Buffett and Stephen Curry raises $9 million from anonymous bidder

An auction bidder has pledged a staggering $9,000,100 to share a meal with billionaire investor Warren Buffett and basketball icon Stephen Curry during a charity event.

This bidding war took place over a week on eBay, concluding on Thursday, though the victor’s identity hasn’t been revealed yet.

The dinner is set for June 24 in Omaha, Nebraska, where Buffett’s company, Berkshire Hathaway, is based. The winner can bring along up to seven guests of their choosing.

Funds raised will be split between the Glide Foundation and eat. learn. play. Buffett has pledged to match the final bids, pushing the total contributions to around $27 million.

Glide, located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, works to aid the impoverished, homeless, and individuals battling substance abuse issues.

Buffett has previously raised nearly $53.2 million for Glide through 21 auctions from 2000 to 2022, inspired by his late first wife, Susan, who had volunteered for the organization before her passing in 2004. The last auction in 2022 saw a record bid of $19 million, marking the highest price ever achieved in an eBay charity auction.

Founded by Stephen and Ayesha Curry, eat. learn. play. emphasizes the importance of nutritious meals, children’s literacy, and active lifestyles.

Stephen Curry, a guard for the Golden State Warriors, boasts four NBA championship titles and two MVP awards. Ayesha Curry is known for her entrepreneurial ventures, cookbooks, and advocacy against child hunger.

Buffett, at 95, has spent 60 years serving as Berkshire’s CEO and chairman. He has committed almost his entire fortune, which Forbes estimates at $143.5 billion, to a charitable trust managed by his three children.
