Trump calls on Kentucky voters to remove Massie following Cassidy’s primary loss

Trump Targets Massie Following Cassidy’s Primary Loss

After successfully pushing out Senator Bill Cassidy in the Louisiana primary, former President Donald Trump has turned his attention to Republican Representative Thomas Massie from Kentucky. He urged his supporters to vote against Massie, warning that failing to do so could lead them to share Cassidy’s unfortunate fate.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump referred to Massie as “the worst and most unreliable Republican in our nation’s history,” claiming he posed an even greater insult than Cassidy, who faced a historic loss and couldn’t even continue in the primary. “This is truly unprecedented for a sitting U.S. senator!” Trump exclaimed. He attributed Cassidy’s downfall to his impeachment vote, which he perceived as a betrayal from someone who had previously benefited from Trump’s support.

In the recent Louisiana primary, Cassidy didn’t make the cut, finishing behind Letlow and State Treasurer John Fleming, who will now compete in a runoff on June 27.

Trump’s harsh words for Massie did not end there. He continued to emphasize how Massie has opposed his agenda since 2020, branding him as “disingenuous” and urging Kentucky voters to eliminate him in the upcoming elections. “Vote for Ed Gullane, a respected Kentucky farmer and war hero who ran against Massie in part due to his perceived dishonesty and disrespect toward me,” Trump insisted.

Trump proclaimed that Gullane would be an excellent representative for Kentucky, expressing confidence that he’d never let them down, echoing his famous campaign slogan about making America great again.

The race for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District has captured significant attention, especially with Trump backing Gullane as he aims to unseat Massie. This contest has evolved into one of the most closely monitored Republican primaries, especially after Trump’s critical remarks about Massie and his past voting record.

Trump’s call to action comes as he celebrates Cassidy’s defeat, marking what he called a “great night in politics.” He cautioned that Cassidy, one of the seven Republican senators who voted to convict him during his second impeachment trial, is now politically finished.

In addition to critiquing Massie, Trump also took the opportunity to call out Representative Lauren Boebert from Colorado, implying that she too is weak for supporting Massie. He suggested he might withdraw support for her if she faces a challenger in her district. However, Massie argued it’s too late for Trump to influence that race now.

The criticism between Trump and Massie has intensified over the last year, particularly after Massie voted against key bills such as the short-term funding measure. Massie, defending his position, remarked that no one should think they can manipulate his voting through threats regarding his re-election.

As primary season heats up, the division between Trump and some Republican figures continues to emerge, leaving the outcome in Kentucky’s race uncertain. Massie has held his seat since 2012, but now faces a pivotal moment that could reshape his political career.
