Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Wins Second Consecutive MVP

Oklahoma City Thunder’s star player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is close to sealing his place in NBA history. He was named the NBA MVP for the 2025-26 season, as reported by ESPN.

This marks Gilgeous-Alexander’s second straight MVP award, making him the 14th player in NBA history to achieve this feat. He now joins the ranks of Nikola Jokic, who won the award for two consecutive seasons in 2020-21 and 2021-22, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who did it a couple of years prior to that.

Other notable finalists for the award included Denver Nuggets’ Jokic and rising star Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs. Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder back to the top, securing the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs after last season’s championship win. He played in 68 games, averaging an impressive 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.

Additionally, he earned the title of Clutch Player of the Year, which is—perhaps—indicative of his overall impact on the court.

Jokic and Wembanyama certainly had standout seasons themselves. Jokic averaged a triple-double with 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game for the second consecutive year. Wembanyama made a strong comeback following a health setback last season, with averages of 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game, although it’s worth noting that his Spurs finished second in the Western Conference with 34 wins and 48 losses.

Looking ahead, both Gilgeous-Alexander and Wembanyama remain focused on securing a championship, with the anticipated Western Conference Finals matchup generating significant buzz among NBA fans this season.
