This weekend’s weather was quite pleasant, which added extra excitement to the Crosstown Classic.
In a surprising moment on Sunday, Cubs outfielder Pete Crowe Armstrong reportedly reacted to a female fan during the fifth inning, saying, “You suck, you suck,” after she had called him something less than flattering.
Following a close 9-8 loss that went into the 10th inning at Rate Field, Crowe Armstrong explained his side.
Warning: Graphic language
“A woman suddenly started talking, and I felt like I had to say something back,” Crowe Armstrong mentioned to ESPN.
This exchange followed after he missed what could have been a crucial two-run double against the wall, an opportunity to tie the game at that moment.
After that missed catch, a female White Sox fan began shouting at him.
“This is terrible,” she seemed to yell, giving Crowe Armstrong a thumbs up as he got back up.
X user Katie, who claims she made the comment, shared that she was preparing to celebrate her engagement party that day.
After the incident drew attention, Katie made her X account private.
“We planned everything knowing PCA would be in center field, and we thought, ‘Let’s heckle him a bit,’” she told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Crowe Armstrong, not particularly pleased, turned away and walked off after the brief encounter.
Known for his strong defensive skills, he’s not often the target of heckling, especially for his fielding.
The game itself was a thrilling back-and-forth, with the White Sox scoring three runs in the eighth to take a brief lead, only for the Cubs to tie it in the ninth.
In the end, the Cubs scored in the top of the tenth, but the White Sox managed to clinch the victory with two runs, making it one of the season’s standout games.
Despite this loss, the Cubs (29-18) continue to lead the National League Central division, while the White Sox (24-22) remain an unexpected contender this season.
