Tragic news has emerged about six-year-old twins who were critically injured in a recent fire at their Bronx apartment. Their parents are now facing the unbearable sorrow of burying all three of their children, including their one-year-old brother who died at the hospital shortly after the blaze.
The father, Kwesi Harris, shared with the Post that the twins, Isis and O’Shees Parks-Harris, succumbed to their injuries from the fire that broke out in their building on Bainbridge Avenue last Monday.
One-year-old Liam Parks-Harris was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after firefighters rescued him from the building. Eyewitnesses described seeing a soot-covered baby being carried to safety.
Reflecting on the heartbreaking day, Harris recalled his last memory of kissing his son goodbye before heading to work. “My wife was already cooking when I left. I got food at 1 o’clock, kissed Liam, and said I was going to work,” he recounted.
His world turned upside down when he received a call after 3 PM about the fire. His immediate thought was for his children. “They drove straight from Brooklyn,” he recalled, his voice filled with anguish.
The distraught father shared how he had to restrain his wife from rushing into the flames to save their kids. “She wanted to run through the fire… thank God my friend held her back,” Harris said.
“On that day, she was holding Liam in the hospital when I arrived. You’re a good mother,” he told Ms. Harris, reflecting their bond in grief.
Harris cherishes memories of weekends spent working out and studying with his children. “My favorite times were when they wanted to work out with me. I served in the army for ten years, and this was my routine,” he recalled.
“Saturdays and Sundays, I stayed home with them, doing homework and asking about their friends. I wanted to know how their week went — if anyone was bothering them,” he added.
As he woke up in tears one morning, he was consumed with memories. “Where is my Liam, where is my O’Shea?” he pondered, revealing his heartache.
The fire spread quickly from the second floor, forcing residents to flee. According to FDNY officials, two civilians and three firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
Harris mentioned that a large rat might have caused the fire by chewing through electrical wires, coupled with several electric bicycles stored in a downstairs restaurant, notorious for being fire hazards.
“They really need to look into what started this fire,” he urged. The Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause.
