Primary Elections Highlight Key Races Across Six States
Hebron, Kentucky – Voters in Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon, and Pennsylvania will go to the polls on Tuesday for pivotal primary elections. This marks a busy day on the 2026 midterm calendar, as contests for the U.S. House, Senate, and governorships are set to unfold, alongside numerous down-ballot races. With Republicans fighting to maintain their slender Senate majority and narrow control of the House, these primaries are particularly significant.
High-profile primary battles will particularly test former President Donald Trump’s influence within the Republican Party and the overall strength of his endorsements.
Just two weeks ago, Trump targeted five state senators during the Indiana primary over their opposition to his redistricting efforts. More recently, he helped remove Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, a known critic, who failed to secure renomination. Now, Trump’s sights are set on Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie.
Defense Secretary Hegseth Joins Trump’s Campaign Against Massie
Massie has been representing Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District for 14 years and has often been critical of Trump. His libertarian leanings have led to clashes over foreign policy, particularly regarding military aid to Israel and the Iran conflict. Furthermore, he’s been proactive about releasing files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which hasn’t endeared him to Trump.
Throughout the primary campaign, Trump has made several posts on social media knocking Massie, while helping rally support for his challenger, Ed Galine, a farmer and former Navy SEAL.
Galine recently partnered with Army Secretary Pete Hegseth, garnering late-stage backing as the primary approaches.
In a video statement, Trump expressed hopes that Kentucky voters would “put Massie out of business,” labeling him “the worst congressman in the history of our country.”
Massie, in an interview, suggested that Trump’s involvement could backfire. He noted, “It shows he’s sleep-deprived and his reputation is at stake. He really shouldn’t have been involved in this race.”
The financial scale of the campaign has reached remarkable heights, becoming the most costly in House history, with over $32 million spent, much of it directed by Trump’s allies along with pro-Israel groups. Massie defended his position on foreign aid, asserting, “I have nothing against Israel. I just never voted for it. America first – that’s what I meant.”
This race has drawn national attention, with Massie stating, “It’s basically a national election at this point, the most expensive primary in Congress, because I’m out there getting things done.”
Trump’s Stakes in Kentucky’s Senate Primary
Additionally, Trump’s support is under scrutiny in the Senate primary to replace retiring Senator Mitch McConnell. Among the eleven Republican candidates are Congressman Andy Barr, who has secured Trump’s endorsement, and former Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
Georgia Gubernatorial Primary
In Georgia, Trump’s influence will be tested in the Republican gubernatorial primary. He is backing Lt. Governor Bert Jones, viewed as a frontrunner against Rick Jackson, a billionaire businessman who has invested heavily in his campaign. Other notable candidates include State Attorney General Chris Carr and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
Alabama Primaries
Over in Alabama, Trump supports Senator Tommy Tuberville, while the gubernatorial race also garners attention, with former U.S. Senator Doug Jones among the Democratic nominees. However, only three of Alabama’s congressional districts are holding primaries on Tuesday due to recent judicial rulings that affected district maps.
As these primaries unfold, all eyes will likely be on the implications and outcomes—both locally and nationally—as candidates vie for the chance to make a mark in the upcoming general elections.
