Trump Issues Warning as Tensions Rise with Iran

President Donald Trump has indicated that he was on the verge of launching new strikes against Iran but has since opted to hold off for the time being, citing ongoing diplomatic efforts. During a press briefing, Vice President J.D. Vance stated that while the administration aims for a diplomatic resolution, they are prepared for military action should those talks fail.

Vance emphasized that any deal must ensure Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, saying, “It takes two to tango.” He noted, “We are not going to enter into a deal allowing the Iranians to develop nuclear capabilities.” He added that the U.S. is currently weighing two possible routes: one that involves a lengthy negotiation for a lasting agreement and another that may lead to military intervention.

The vice president reiterated that while negotiations are taking place, they cannot compromise the administration’s primary goal of eliminating the threat of a nuclear Iran. Option B, as he called it, is a return to military action but stressed that this is not the desired path for either the U.S. or Iran.

Recently, President Trump mentioned that there was a possibility of significant military action soon, stating, “We were getting ready to carry out very large-scale attacks.” However, he also expressed optimism regarding potential negotiations, “If we can do that without bombing them, we’ll be very happy.”

Trump’s comments reflect a shift in his stance as tensions have escalated since a ceasefire in mid-April, with the president warning Iran that fighting could resume unless an agreement is reached.

Over the weekend, he warned Iran, “the clock is ticking,” stressing the urgency for progress in talks, or else there would be dire consequences. The president had initially announced preparations for a significant military response if an acceptable treaty could not be finalized.
