Giancarlo Stanton remains in a standstill with the Yankees after an unsatisfactory MRI result

Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton Update

On a positive note for the Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton feels better than what his MRI suggests.

However, the MRI results indicate some ongoing issues, which is a bit disheartening.

Despite a recent re-examination showing he still has mild tightness in his right calf, Stanton remains in a sort of limbo and hasn’t yet been cleared to increase his running regimen, a necessary step before he can return.

“Calves can be tricky,” Stanton mentioned before the Yankees’ 5-4 victory over the Jays on Tuesday. “It’s important not to let this linger.”

Stanton has had calf strains in the past, but he stays active by hitting daily in the cage and working with the Trajekt machine. Once he’s back in the routine, he should be in fighting shape.

He also includes plyometric exercises in his training, which he feels are “explosive enough for running, but not continuous.”

Still, the Yankees are being cautious and might schedule another MRI to confirm he’s fully recovered before any further action.

“I really don’t want to be out. I want to get back as soon as I can,” stated Stanton, who has been in Illinois since April 28.

Austin Wells made his return on Tuesday after JC Escala had started in consecutive games, though he went hitless. Wells has faced challenges at the plate, coming into the game with a mere three hits out of 32 at-bats.

Manager Aaron Boone commented, “I think his behind-the-scenes work has been solid. He has what it takes to find his rhythm. During rough patches like this, it’s crucial to focus on the quality of plate appearances and trust yourself. He’s fully capable of doing that. On the bright side, his defensive game has been impressive.”

Meanwhile, Jose Caballero took batting practice on Tuesday as he works to gradually increase his activities after spending at least ten days on the disabled list due to a fractured middle finger on his right hand. He could potentially return by Friday.

After a strong performance in Double-A, the Yankees have promoted right-handed reliever Eric Raiselman to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Following a tough stint last year and a late-season procedure, the 24-year-old excelled at Double-A Somerset, tossing 17⅓ innings with 32 strikeouts and just four walks, occasionally reaching impressive speeds.

If Raiselman continues this trajectory in Triple-A, he may soon be in line for a role in the Yankees’ bullpen.
