Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Ejected During Game
In a tense moment during Tuesday night’s game, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected after voicing his concerns about a catch made by Toronto Blue Jays’ Dalton Varsho. The incident unfolded in the seventh inning of the Yankees’ 5-4 victory.
Boone’s frustrations stemmed from a diving catch by Varsho off Jazz Chisholm Jr. Boone had already lost a challenge earlier in the game, meaning he couldn’t contest the call on this play.
Boone stood firm in his belief that Varsho had trapped the ball rather than caught it cleanly. He exchanged heated words with umpire Brennan Miller, the same umpire who had previously been on the receiving end of Boone’s memorable “savage in the box” outburst back in 2019.
In an almost ironic twist, Boone seemed to shout, “Good job!” at himself before charging out of the dugout. After the game, he reflected on the situation, saying, “I thought I had two missed calls tonight. I felt Anthony (Volpe) was safe at second base, but I also believed the ball was trapped in the outfield. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a challenge there.”
He later acknowledged, “I may have overreacted a little too much. I got upset because it felt like there were two calls that went against us, and when I thought I missed the other one without being able to challenge it, I lost my composure.” Despite Boone’s outburst, the Yankees managed to seal the win against Toronto.
Ben Rice hit a two-run home run that broke a 3-3 tie, and Ryan McMahon contributed a three-run homer off Dylan Cease during the game.
This marked the 48th ejection for Boone as a manager and the second this season.
