Kylie Minogue Shares She Faced Cancer Again In Secret

Kylie Minogue Opens Up About Cancer Battles in New Documentary

Kylie Minogue, the acclaimed Australian pop star, shared that she faced a second cancer diagnosis in 2021, following her initial battle with breast cancer back in 2005.

In her Netflix documentary titled “Kylie,” which was released recently, the 57-year-old singer discussed her health struggles. Minogue is widely recognized for hits like “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” and “Confide In Me.”

“My second cancer diagnosis was in early 2021. I managed to keep it private,” she revealed. “It was different from the first time.”

She elaborated on her choice to keep this diagnosis low-key, stating, “I don’t think I have to share everything. Honestly, I just couldn’t at that moment because I felt like a shell of a person.”

Minogue mentioned that she often found it difficult to choose the right moment to share her experience. After the success of her Grammy-winning single, “Padam Padam,” she struggled more with the decision. “At one point, I didn’t want to leave the house,” she recalled. “While ‘Padam Padam’ opened so many doors, I knew that cancer was a significant part of my life.”

She confessed, “I really wanted to express what I had been through to let it go. I sat through various interviews thinking ‘now’s the time,’ yet I kept it all inside.”

Successfully overcoming cancer again, Minogue credited her love for music as a motivating factor. “I’m grateful to have come through it, and I feel well,” she said. “Who knows what lies ahead, but pop music continues to nurture me… my passion for it has only grown.”

Minogue has been recognized as one of the few female artists from her generation to publicly discuss her cancer diagnoses, inspiring many women worldwide to prioritize their health. A study from 2005 revealed that media coverage of her initial breast cancer diagnosis significantly increased mammogram bookings.

“I needed something to mark that period,” Minogue noted.

The Netflix documentary is directed by Michael Harte.
