Live Carjacking of Mexican Sports Journalist

On Tuesday, a Mexican sports journalist experienced a harrowing carjacking at gunpoint while appearing live on television.

Fernando Vargas was conducting an interview for the sports channel Activo Deportes’ “Bula Bla Bla Deportivo” from a vehicle parked at a gas station. Suddenly, a man armed with a gun forced open the driver’s side door.

Vargas, who serves as a journalist and communications director for Mexico’s National Professional Basketball League, seemed startled but managed to stay composed during the tense moment.

The incident took place in the Mexican state of Morelos, which lies just south of Mexico City.

The broadcast captured the robber as he discharged a round from his firearm, demanding that Vargas hand over his belongings.

In Spanish, the assailant instructed Vargas, “Give me your keys quickly. Hand over your keys, cell phone, and wallet now.”

As host Ed Martinez watched in disbelief, Vargas gathered several items, including his phone, and exited the vehicle.

It remains uncertain if the carjacker knew that Vargas was live on air during the event.

Vargas was seen getting out of the car before the feed cut out, but his voice could still be heard asking the robber to “Calm down, calm down.”

Fortunately, Vargas emerged from the ordeal without any injuries. Martinez later updated viewers on Instagram regarding the situation.

“Thankfully, he’s alright, but understandably very shaken,” Martinez commented. “If anyone recognizes the man from the video, please contact the authorities. This took place in Morelos.”

The thieves made off with Vargas’ wallet, cell phone, vehicle, and other personal items.

As of now, there have been no reported arrests related to this incident.
