Rubio reveals a 'new plan' for Cuba and promises $100 million in aid supplies.

Cuba’s New Path Proposed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio

In a recent video message, Secretary of State Marco Rubio introduced a “new path” for Cuba, which includes a significant aid package worth $100 million in food and medical supplies.

This announcement came just hours before the Department of Justice revealed criminal charges against Raul Castro and five others for murder, following a federal grand jury’s decision in Florida.

Rubio spoke directly to the Cuban people in Spanish, highlighting severe issues like corruption, theft, and the oppressive nature of the current government. He expressed concern about the existing communist leadership in Cuba.

“President Trump is offering a new path between the United States and a new Cuba, where you have a real opportunity to choose who will govern your country and vote for their successor if they are not doing a good job,” Rubio stated, noting his own family’s background as Cuban immigrants.

Recent tensions between the U.S. and Cuba have escalated, particularly following the successful U.S. operation on January 3 that led to the arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro on drug trafficking charges.

“In the United States, we are ready to open a new chapter in the relationship between our people and our country,” Rubio remarked, as per the official English translation from the State Department. “And right now, the only people standing in the way of a better future are those who control your country.”

Some Republican lawmakers expressed optimism that the indictments would serve justice.

“We have a different president now, a president who is not going to turn a blind eye,” Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Florida) said during a news conference. “Today, we hope that justice will finally come.”

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York emphasized, “This is a communist regime that brutally murders and tortures its people. This is a credit to Raul Castro himself. I hope this is a turning point for the Cuban people.”

Meanwhile, Cuba is currently grappling with widespread power outages as severe fuel shortages have disrupted an already fragile energy infrastructure. Analysts believe this crisis stems from the country’s failure to maintain electricity generation due to a significant drop in oil imports.

Venezuela has historically been a crucial oil supplier for Cuba, but its exports have drastically declined since Maduro’s arrest.

“The reason we have to survive 22 hours a day without electricity is not because of the U.S. oil ‘blockade’. As you know, you have been suffering from power outages for years,” Rubio explained. “The real reason you don’t have electricity, fuel, or food is because the people who control your country are looting billions of dollars and nothing is being spent on helping your people.”

“President Trump is proposing a new relationship between the United States and Cuba,” he continued. “But it has to be done directly to you, the Cuban people, not to GAESA,” referring to the Cuban conglomerate linked to the military.

Rubio asserted that the aid should be funneled to the Cuban people through the Catholic Church and other charitable organizations to prevent diversion by GAESA for resale in state-run stores.

“This is a new Cuba, where ordinary Cubans, not just GAESAs, can own gas stations, clothing stores, and restaurants,” Rubio asserted.
