Sen. Blackburn Discusses Trump’s Endorsements and Legislative Goals
During a recent appearance, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) remarked that President Trump tends to back individuals who can help further his agenda. The discussion, held on Breitbart News Daily, highlighted Trump’s latest endorsements.
In Texas, Trump endorsed Attorney General Ken Paxton over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the primary race. Blackburn indicated that it wasn’t surprising for Trump to support someone he feels will push the MAGA agenda ahead.
“I know the president is deeply invested in these elections,” Blackburn shared. “He wants to see candidates elected who will align with his priorities. Naturally, he’ll back those he thinks will effectively drive his agenda.”
She further emphasized that Trump will independently decide on these electoral matters, stating, “Those decisions are ultimately his, and he’s going to make choices that reflect his views.” Blackburn noted the public’s desire for America First policies to come to fruition.
“The American people showed their preference for this agenda when they voted for the president. They want it to succeed and to elect representatives who will support it,” she elaborated.
Despite the backing from Trump, Blackburn expressed skepticism about the impact on legislative progress leading up to the midterm elections. “I think you’ll see the Senate continue to push forward. We’re currently focused on a reconciliation bill. Some of us are still trying to secure the needed 50 votes to advance ‘Save America’. We’re tackling affordability issues, like housing and fuel prices, and we won’t back off,” she explained.
Host Mike Slater pointed out that establishment Republicans had previously hindered progress and currently lack Trump’s support.
“They were unable to pass the American Rescue Act, which is why Trump is supporting Paxton. Figures like Tillis, Thune, and Cornyn couldn’t get it done. So, how do we move forward from here?” Slater questioned.
Blackburn added, “There are a few votes against ‘Save America.’ As you know, we have conservatives on the Senate Administration Committee, and I’m part of that team. We’ve made progress, but we’re still short by a few votes.”
“Yet, Mike, we’re not throwing in the towel. We understand this is crucial, and the American public recognizes that passing ‘Save America’ is vital. So, we’re determined to secure those last pivotal votes for the vice president to cast the 51st and pass the bill,” Blackburn concluded.
