Pete Alonso’s Tough Game Against the Tigers

Pete Alonso was aiming to make a solid play against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, but things didn’t go as planned. In the first game of their doubleheader, a hit from Dillon Dingler came directly towards him in the fourth inning. It looked like it would be an easy out.

However, with a runner on first, Alonso decided against catching the ball, allowing it to drop. This decision, as it turned out, wasn’t the best one.

Alonso ended up misplaying the ball, jumping out before making a throw that took an unusual bounce to second base. As a result, both runners made it safely, leading to an error call against him.

If Alonso had successfully completed the play, he might have been lauded for a rare and smart defensive move. But, taking that gamble can lead to mistakes, which is exactly what happened.

This error allowed the Tigers to score two runs in the fourth inning, yet Baltimore managed to fight back and win the game 5-3, breaking their three-game losing streak.

Despite the victory, the day was forgettable for Alonso. He struggled throughout, going 0-for-4 at the plate. Although he has had his moments this season, with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs, his overall performance has been inconsistent, shown in his .224 batting average.

Alonso signed a five-year contract worth $155 million with the Orioles this offseason, which translates to an average annual salary of about $31 million.
