Salesian Sisters offer their blessings to Luke Kornet before Game 4 victory

Spurs Triumph Over Thunder, Nuns’ Blessing Included

The San Antonio Spurs secured a win against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a score of 103-82, and some might say divine intervention played a role.

In attendance for Game 4 was a collective of Catholic nuns called the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco. They sported Spurs jerseys and interacted with several players prior to the matchup.

A memorable moment captured on video showed Spurs center Luke Cornet receiving a blessing from two of the nuns, which quickly made its way onto social media.

A lively video of the nuns passionately chanting “Go Spurs Go!” was also shared on the team’s social media platforms, adding to the spirited atmosphere.

This enthusiastic fandom from the “Spurs Nuns” actually dates back to the 1990s, as noted by a local news source.

The nuns’ involvement isn’t just about basketball; they also wanted to connect with students at St. John Bosco School, sharing interests that resonate with the kids. Sister Bernadette Mota highlighted this mission, stating, “Our ministry is with young people. I love discussing basketball with them; it’s quite enjoyable.”

Since becoming Spurs supporters, the sisters have developed a genuine affection for certain players, including Dylan Harper, a New Jersey native who once attended Salesian Sisters High School. And, of course, Cornet is among their favorites.

Sister Margaret Nuttall expressed her ongoing prayers for the Spurs, sharing her thoughts on the importance of sportsmanship over mere victories. “We pray for good sportsmanship. It’s about character and leading by example,” she noted.

On Sunday, it seems their prayers were indeed answered as the Spurs managed to tie the series with this latest win.

In the game, Cornet contributed six points with 3-of-4 shooting in just 13 minutes, while superstar Victor Wembanyama stood out with a remarkable 33 points, along with eight rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.
