Tiger Woods speaks out following his DUI arrest with a Memorial Day tribute to his father

Tiger Woods Pays Tribute on Memorial Day

Tiger Woods honored those who made significant sacrifices on Memorial Day, delivering a heartfelt message in public for the first time in nearly two months.

Woods took to X early Monday afternoon, where he not only shared a Memorial Day tribute but also acknowledged his late father, Earl Woods, who served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. He expressed, “My father was a Special Forces operator who made two trips to Vietnam and served for 20 years. To those like my father, we all thank you for your sacrifices. Without them, we would not have the greatest nation on earth.”

Earl Woods passed away in May 2006 at the age of 74.

Before this Memorial Day message, Woods hadn’t spoken publicly since March 31, when he announced he would be stepping back to seek treatment following a car crash in Florida on March 27 and a subsequent DUI arrest. He faced two misdemeanor charges: DUI with property damage and refusal to take a lawful test. Interestingly, Woods recorded a 0.00 on both alcohol tests he underwent but declined a urine test, which led to the refusal charge.

He was cleared to travel abroad shortly after—on April 1—for comprehensive inpatient treatment.

Recently, Woods returned to Florida, being spotted at Palm Beach International Airport on May 13. While initially thought to signify the end of his overseas treatment, reports indicate that he may return to Switzerland soon for ongoing rehabilitation.

The exact reason for his return to Florida remains uncertain, yet it coincided with the public sharing of a breast cancer diagnosis by Vanessa Trump, a conversation he had with Woods not long ago. She referred to him as her “strength” on social media, highlighting the connection between them since they began dating in March 2025.

Amidst all these events, Woods hasn’t participated in competitive golf since the 2024 British Open in Scotland.
