Trump Places Wreath at the Unknown Soldier's Grave, Remembers America's Heroes on Memorial Day

Memorial Day Observance by President Trump

President Trump marked Memorial Day by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, taking time afterward to pay tribute to America’s fallen soldiers.

Standing alongside Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth, the ceremony included the playing of taps and the display of the American flag before and after the wreath-laying.

The president, along with Vance, Hegseth, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Kaine, delivered speeches in the amphitheater.

“With reverence, we honor those who died for the survival of our country, those who died for the survival of our nation, and those who gave up their sacred light on earth so that the noble light of American freedom may shine forever,” Trump stated.

“On this Memorial Day, we honor them, honor them, and thank them for all we have and all they have given. They gave everything. God bless our fallen heroes,” he emphasized.

Trump assured Gold Star families that their loved ones who sacrificed their lives in service will always be remembered.

Vance reflected on the immense debt owed to those who perished in combat, emphasizing the considerable sacrifices made by soldiers for their homeland.

“Today is a day for veterans who served overseas in uniform and never returned home. When we think of what we owe to them, we remember all that they have given us. It cannot be measured in dollars or earthly things, but in the weddings we never got to attend, the children we never got to see grow up, the daughters and sons we never got to hug or kiss again, the people we love, the husbands and wives. They traded every moment, from the moment they gave their lives to the moment they finally met their natural end, resigning that America might remain the freest and best country in the entire world. How wonderful! What a wonderful gift!”

Hegseth highlighted that America’s freedoms came at the cost of “American blood.”

“On this solemn day, we must remember that this republic was built and bought by blood, the blood of Americans. So today, please pause for a moment and think about the transformation that these warriors underwent for our country. Share it with your children and grandchildren. We must do this,” he said.

“Even ordinary people can become our heroes if they are called upon. They did not fight because they hated what was in front of them, but because they loved what was behind them,” he added.

Kaine promised Gold Star families that their loved ones who had been killed in action would not be forgotten.

“To all the Gold Star families here today, and to all of you watching across this great nation, we know that for you, Memorial Day is not just a single date on a calendar, but literally every day,” he expressed.

“You carry a burden that most of us cannot understand, but you carry it with a grace and resilience that inspires an entire nation. We cannot restore what you have lost, but we can promise you this: Your loved one’s name will never be forgotten,” he concluded.

Kaine noted that their names are “woven into the fabric of our nation’s story.”
