Terrifying moment crowded Alcatraz ferry crashes into San Francisco dock

A ferry ride from San Francisco to Alcatraz took a frightening turn this past weekend as it crashed into Pier 31 while attempting to dock.

Passengers captured the moment on their phones as the boat collided with the pier, causing some to lose their balance and others to panic.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, but many aboard found the incident quite traumatizing.

One passenger, Olivia Rios Acuña, shared a heart-wrenching moment when her son expressed disappointment. He said, “Mom, I thought today was going to be the best day, but today is the worst day.” She chose this cruise because her son loves boats, and after an enjoyable time onboard, the situation quickly escalated.

“Suddenly, there was this loud noise, and the entire boat shook,” she recounted.

According to her, the ferry hit the pier several times, breaking windows and leading to chaos among passengers. Some even fell, with one woman tumbling down the stairs.

Alcatraz City Cruises, the company operating the ferry, described the incident as a “docking incident” that occurred on Sunday, but didn’t provide detailed information about what happened.

Rios Acuña expressed her fear, saying, “What was going on? And who was piloting this vessel?”

Another woman, scared the boat might sink, recalled thinking, “Oh my god, I’m going to sink. I’m not a good swimmer,” adding to the atmosphere of fear onboard.

Passengers were left questioning the crew’s calm demeanor during such a shocking event.

One passenger remarked that the staff didn’t appear very concerned, yet their expressions told a different story of worry. “Is today your first day? That’s what I was thinking,” shared Daniel Aburto, adding to the mix of confusion and concern.

A woman who recorded the event noted that her child was deeply upset. “This guy said something like, ‘Have a nice day; you certainly had an exciting entry,’ but it felt more inappropriate than reassuring since my child was still crying,” Rios Acuña stated.

In their official statement, Alcatraz City Cruises confirmed a ship was involved in a berthing incident while returning to Pier 31. They assured that, as of now, no injuries had been reported and that an investigation is currently underway to understand what caused this incident.
