Tragedy has struck a popular tourist destination in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where several women have been discovered dead. Local authorities are currently probing potential links to a broader pattern of violence.
The bodies of the women were found across different parts of the city in recent weeks. While their identities haven’t been disclosed yet, reports indicate that the victims were aged between 30 and 35, had tattoos, and were discovered in a partially undressed state.
Officials are investigating whether there’s a connection between these incidents, suggesting the possibility of a fatal trend.
Furthermore, there’s speculation that these women might have been murdered elsewhere and left in Puerto Vallarta, as their friends and family have not stepped forward to claim them.
Authorities discovered the first body on May 10, with another found shortly after, and a third body was located last Thursday, which heightened concerns of recurring violence.
The remains were recovered from three distinct locations on the outskirts of the city, far from the touristy areas where most visitors and residents congregate.
In 2022, Puerto Vallarta attracted around 1.7 million visitors, primarily from the United States.
Violence in Jalisco state has escalated recently, particularly following the death of notorious cartel leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, often referred to as “El Mencho.” His killing spurred retaliatory actions from the Jalisco New Generation cartel, which included attacks on vehicles and infrastructure in Guadalajara. Violent clashes with authorities resulted in multiple fatalities.
The peak of this violence occurred in February, leaving numerous Americans trapped in the area and prompting the State Department to issue heightened travel warnings. Fortunately, things have reportedly calmed down since then.
