Veteran Dies After Assault by DoorDash Driver
A military veteran, who had been in a coma for several months, has passed away after suffering serious injuries in an incident involving a DoorDash driver.
Authorities report that 75-year-old Lloyd Poole had been hospitalized since December, following a brain hemorrhage that occurred after part of his skull was removed. The incident took place near Wixom, Michigan, where 40-year-old Ryan Turner is alleged to have assaulted Poole.
According to investigators, Poole confronted Turner about his speeding in the neighborhood. In response, Turner punched Poole, knocking him to the ground.
Poole’s daughter, Jen Shaw, shared with Fox News Digital that her father, an Army veteran, was deeply committed to honoring those who had served and sacrificed their lives.
“He lost his life to something so senseless,” she remarked, highlighting the profound impact of this tragic event on their family.
Further examination of court records shows Turner had previous legal troubles, including an arrest in 2022 related to another road rage incident.
Poole’s stepdaughter, Lindsey Gonzalez, noted that he underwent seven brain surgeries during his time in the hospital following the attack.
In a statement released by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, they expressed sadness over Poole’s death and stated their commitment to pursuing justice for his family. They are currently evaluating the situation and considering modifications to the charges against Turner, who is facing aggravated assault charges and has a pretrial hearing scheduled for June 17.
Jen Shaw expects that the charges may be escalated as the investigation unfolds. She shared fond memories of her father’s passion for sailing, stating that some of her best moments were spent with him on the water.
In response to the tragic incident, a spokesperson for DoorDash said, “This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts go out to the victim’s family during this very difficult time. We have tried to reach out to offer our support and are committed to assisting law enforcement in this matter.”
