WNBA coach reaffirms skepticism about Jalen Brunson even after Knicks make it to the NBA Finals

Trump Plans to Attend NBA Finals Game

During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, President Donald Trump expressed his belief that he will attend the NBA Finals game next week, especially as the New York Knicks make their finals appearance for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Knicks fans are surely hoping that a championship win would quiet one of Jalen Brunson’s most vocal critics while they aim to end a lengthy 53-year title drought.

Despite the Knicks reaching the Finals, Becky Hammon seems hesitant to acknowledge her previous doubts about Brunson’s capability to be the top player on a championship-caliber team.

Brunson, having led the Knicks to their first playoff series win since 2013 in his debut season, has indeed become a significant figure in New York basketball lore.

Fans are still waiting, perhaps a bit impatiently, for Hammon to concede. She’s not quite ready to do that just yet.

When recently asked to reconsider her earlier statements, the Las Vegas Aces coach stood firm. She pointed out a historical precedent, mentioning that Allen Iverson won the MVP but still lost in the Finals. While she thinks the best teams are likely in the West, she remains open to being proven wrong.

Hammon expressed her respect for Brunson, claiming he’s an impressive player but reiterated her views on team composition in her earlier comments. At that time, she conveyed skepticism about the Knicks lacking enough talent to contend properly.

It’s interesting, really, as her original assessment highlights a common sentiment within the NBA community—that while Brunson is talented, he might not fit the mold of a franchise-leading superstar.

Now, with the Knicks just a few wins away from a long-awaited title, the stakes are higher than ever. If Brunson does succeed in New York, not only would he silence Hammon, but he would etch his name into Knicks history. Isn’t that the ultimate goal anyway?
