Caitlin Clark likely to play in Fever-Valkyries rematch after back problems

WNBA star Caitlin Clark discusses the 'mental struggle' caused by a series of injuries.

Caitlin Clark’s Season Update

The latest turn in Caitlin Clark’s remarkable season comes right before the announcement of the Indiana Fever’s latest game details. Clark is anticipated to play in the upcoming matchup with the Golden State Valkyries, even as she faces some early-season trials in the WNBA.

Additionally, it seems that her teammate Bree Hall is also gearing up to join her on the court.

During the Fever’s game against the Portland Fire on May 20, Clark made a late appearance, which marked her first sideline moment this season. Despite her absence, Indiana secured a 90-73 win. They managed to hit the 90-point mark once more last Friday, defeating the Valkyries.

At one point, there were questions regarding Clark’s availability for the Fever versus Valkyries game last week, but those fears were unfounded. She returned to the starting lineup, delivering a team-high of 22 points and contributing to Indiana’s third consecutive victory.

Clark had a notable start to her WNBA journey, but an injury disrupted her progress in 2025. After an impressive rookie year in which she played 40 games and earned Rookie of the Year, she found herself sidelined in the following season due to a groin issue and a bruised ankle bone.

On Wednesday, a day off for the Fever ahead of their rematch against the Valkyries, Clark was seen at the San Francisco Giants versus Arizona Diamondbacks game, which was just a short distance from where the Valkyries play.

She attended the game with her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, a former Iowa State basketball player.

While at Oracle Park, both Clark and McCaffery were spotted wearing Giants hats. Interestingly, Clark has previously shared that she’s a Phillies fan, although they aren’t her first choice. “My boyfriend’s a huge Phillies fan, so I had to support them as well. I do love the Phillies and Bryce Harper,” she commented.

She expressed her diverse baseball interests: “I also have a thing for the Cubs and the Yankees. I’m not overly attached to any one team, but my dad was a devoted Royals supporter.” Reflecting on her roots, she noted, “Kansas City felt like home when it came to professional sports; I liked the Chiefs even before their big rise.” So, she indicated, she would be cheering for the Phillies come playoff time.
